Today we are told the seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. And we don’t just hear it once. We hear it three times. It’s in our first reading from Isaiah [IS 55:10-11], it’s in our responsorial psalm (PS 65:10-14], and it’s in Matthew’s gospel [MT 13:1-23]. Clearly today’s readings are about how God’s love can take root in us if we are open to His word. Are each of us the good ground He is asking us to be?

What Ground Am I?

The seed has been sowed
God’s Word ready to take root
What ground am I?

I hear but don’t understand
Evil is my preferred path
Need to change my ways
Or hell be my wrath

My soil was rocky
I received God’s word
I had no roots
And forgot what I heard

I was doing the right thing
But worldly goods hooked me
Now I’m choking
And dying to be what I used to be

I have become good soil
Produced fruit a hundredfold
God’s Word proclaimed
Heaven with Jesus bestowed

The seed has been sowed
God’s Word ready to take root
What ground am I?
