Adult Faith Formation Presentation: Forgiveness

Sister Deirdre Mullan was born in Derry, Ireland and served for over 20 years in schools in the city as a teacher and administrator. She was very actively involved in education for mutual understanding bringing young people from across the political and religious divide together. In 2001 -2015 she served as Director of the Mercy Global Concern (MGC) at the United Nations, representing the worldwide Mercy Family. She is one the founding members of the NGO The Mercy Girl Effect and serves as a trustee on the Arise Foundation, based in London, one of the foremost active agencies in the world which examines the factor driving the rise in trafficking and, and works to STOP this terrorism against vulnerable people. Sister Deirdre’s PhD – on the Feminization of Poverty, examines how systems collude to exploit women and girls. Sister Deirdre will reflect on her experience growing up in a divided city in Ireland and how as an educator she felt the need to provide young people with an opportunity to learn about others and the importance of co existence. During her talk, Sister Deirdre will share about how she learnt about forgiveness from her mother and other victims of the troubles.
